Before installing XOD hydraulic brakes on a KuKirin scooter, identify the exact model, production version and front/rear brake layout. A model name alone does not confirm the caliper, rotor spacer, mounting hardware or electrical connection.
This overview explains the checks to make before installation. It does not establish a measured stopping-distance improvement or replace the instructions for your exact brake and scooter.
Confirm caliper fitment, sensor compatibility and mounting clearance before removing the original system. If you are unfamiliar with hydraulic fittings, hose cutting or bleeding, use an experienced installer.
📏 Confirm the Supplied Configuration
H800 and H880 identify different caliper configurations; neither is a universal front/rear choice. The documented older G2, tested G2 2026 and listed G4 setups use H880 front and H800 rear. The current G2 Pro 2023 option lists H800 front/H880 rear; the New Version option lists H880 front/rear. Confirm your actual version and disc/mounting layout before selecting parts.
- Lever assignment: The current product reference lists left lever = rear brake and right lever = front brake. Verify the supplied configuration before fitting.
- Hose length: Check the supplied hose and the complete route before cutting. Leave enough slack for full steering, suspension and folding movement where applicable; confirm any unclear length with support.
Before opening a hose connection: Do not assume the lever connections can simply be swapped. Confirm the exact fitting, component order and intended lever assignment first. Opening or disconnecting the hose can introduce air or lose mineral oil. Keep the fitting clean, reconnect with compatible components, inspect for leaks and follow the bleeding instructions before testing.
🛑 Three KuKirin Installation Checks
Check the sensor connection, rotor spacing and mounting hardware separately. Requirements can change with the model, year and wheel position.
Check 1: G2 & G4 Sensor Compatibility
The Issue: You mount the new brakes, but the power-off sensor plug doesn't fit your display.
The Fix: The G2/G4 configurations covered by the current guide use a dedicated adapter for the XOD brake-sensor connection. Confirm both connector ends and your scooter version; do not force similar-looking plugs. Check your selected kit before buying separately: the currently listed G2/G4 complete installation kits include two adapter cables. Other kit options must be checked individually.

Check 2: Model-Specific Rotor Spacing
The Issue: The mounting holes may align while the caliper still contacts the tire, hub, bracket or rotor.
The Fix: The documented older G2 and tested G2 2026 setups use a 4mm rotor spacer at the front only; no additional 4mm rear spacer is specified for those setups. The current G2 Pro 2023 and New Version complete-kit listings each include two 5mm spacers, one per wheel; confirm the actual version before fitting. Do not infer a G2 Max front/rear spacer requirement from this overview. Match the required offset, hub bolt pattern and fasteners to the exact installation (XOD 44mm 6-Bolt Disc Brake Rotor Spacer – 4mm / 5mm for E-Bike & Electric Scooter). A rotor spacer changes rotor offset; it is different from an axle spacer or caliper washer. Preserve the correct position of each part and do not force an installation with inadequate clearance.
Check 3: Use the Correct Bracket and Hardware
The Issue: Your new caliper won't align with the brake rotor, no matter how much you adjust it.
The Fix: Keep the original parts until installation is complete. In the documented older G2 setup, use the XOD-supplied bracket with the original KuKirin bolts and metal washers. The tested G2 2026 setup instead uses the original KuKirin bracket, bolts and washers; its front washers sit between the XOD caliper and the original bracket. The documented G4 setup also retains the original bracket, bolts and washers. Other versions need their own hardware check. Correct parts still require alignment, clearance checks and component-specific tightening; reuse alone does not guarantee alignment.
🔧 The Fast-Track Installation Breakdown
Use this checklist alongside the full installation manual and the instructions for your exact brake, rotor and mounting hardware:
- 1. Kill the Power: Turn your scooter completely off and put it on a stable stand. You do not want the motor kicking in while your fingers are near the rotor.
- 2. Record and Retain the Original Setup: Photograph the hose/cable route, mounting parts and connectors before disassembly. Keep brackets, bolts, washers and spacers organized and protect the pads and rotor from oil or dirt.
- 3. Mount the XOD Calipers: Use the bracket and hardware specified for the exact version, as described above. Leave the caliper loosely positioned for alignment and check pad-to-rotor clearance before final tightening.
- 4. Route the Hoses: Follow the confirmed route, keeping the hose clear of tires, rotors, sharp edges and moving joints. Leave adequate slack. - 5. Align and Tighten: Center the caliper progressively and tighten with the specifications for the applicable components. Spin the wheel again and check for severe or continuous rubbing. Do not squeeze an uninstalled caliper without a rotor or bleed block between the pads. Confirm a firm lever, no leaks and correct motor cut-off, then perform a controlled low-speed test before normal riding.

"I installed the brakes, but my scooter motor is locked/won't accelerate!"
A brake-sensor or wiring problem is one possible cause; do not diagnose the fault from the symptom alone. Turn the scooter off and inspect connector compatibility, seating, pin condition and cable tension. The documented G2/G4 setups use a dedicated adapter. Do not force the plugs or bypass the brake cut-off to make the scooter run. Confirm the connection with support or an experienced technician, and verify motor cut-off before riding.
"My new brake lever feels soft or spongy. Is this just bedding-in?"
Do not assume a soft or spongy lever is caused by bedding-in. Check for leaks, low mineral-oil level and possible air in the hydraulic system. Pre-bled brakes still need checking after installation, especially if a hose was disconnected or shortened. Stop riding if fluid leaks, braking pressure is lost or the lever reaches the handlebar. Repair any leak first. Follow the XOD bleeding guide with compatible mineral oil if air may have entered or the lever remains unusually soft after basic checks; do not use DOT fluid. Confirm a firm, controlled lever and perform a low-speed test before normal riding.
"My new brakes squeal. Is bedding-in enough?"
New pads and rotors need bedding-in, and some initial noise can occur. Persistent squeal can also come from contamination, glazing or alignment problems. Inspect the pads, rotor and caliper alignment instead of assuming every noise will disappear. Do not try to cure a soft lever or hydraulic leak by bedding-in. Only bed in after the brake passes its stationary and low-speed checks, following the applicable brake instructions in a safe area. Stop riding and inspect the brake if there is grinding, loss of pressure or abnormal braking.
Which H800/H880 setup should I select?
